1. LECTURES
DIGITAL SURREALISM

1. Realism Vs Surrealism
Realism : Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call "reality." It almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme. There is no need to think outside of the box, as that is not "real."
- Surrealism : A twist on Realism. It explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream-images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality.

- For This Lectures, We learn more about Surrealism

2. Surrealism
- Surrealism defied logic. Surrealism was a movement in visual art and literature that flourished in Europe between World Wars I and II.
Surrealism has no unified style, but, in painting, one can distinguish a range of possibilities falling between two extremes.
- One of the most surrealist iconic artist like Salvador DaliFueled by the teachings of Freud and the rebellious work of Dada artists.

- Salvador Dali was a spanish surrealist painter and printmaker known for exploring subconscious imagery.

3. Dadaism, Dada Art, Dadaist
- Dadaism is an artistic movement from the early 20th century, predating surrealism and with its roots in a number of major European artistic capitals. Developed in response to the horrors of WW1 the dada movement rejected reason, rationality, and order of the emerging capitalist society, instead favoring chaos, nonsense, and anti-bourgeois sentiment.
- A dadaism is often characterized by humor and whimsy, tending towards the absurd. This kind attittude was used as a satirical critique of the prevealing societal and political system.
Dada Art is a result of the artwork using dadaism techniques. Here are some example of Famous Dada Art.
Fig 1.3 Example of Dada Art Marcel Duchamp's Fountain (1917) Week 9 24/11/2023
- Meanwhile, Dadaist is the person who did/do the dada Art. Example : Marcel Duchamp's, Man Ray, Raoul Hausmann, etc.

- The relative between Surrealism and Dada :
  • Surrealism grew principally out of the earlier Dada movement, which, before World War I, produced works of anti-art that deliberately defied reason. Surrealism’s emphasis, however, was not on negation but on positive expression.
  • Surrealism did adopt Dada’s preoccupation with the bizarre, the irrational, and the fantastic as well as Dada artists’ reliance on accident and chance.
4. Digital Surrealism

- Surrealism is a cultural movement focused on type of arts to express about the artist’s idea themselves.

- In this digital era surrealism is one of the top digital art styles.

Fig 1.5 Digital Surrealism Week 9 24/11/2023
- Step by Step to start creating digital surrealism :
  • Capturing Your Dream
  1. Sketch It Out.  Take a piece of paper and pen/pencil or a tablet and start to sketch. Draw your vision out roughly. Don't finesse any details yet, but just lay out key points of your vision.
  2. Find Reference Images. Gathering reference images will help you greatly in realizing your new idea. Gather images that directly relate to what you have in mind.
Fig 1.6 Capturing your dream Week 9 24/11/2023
  • Mindset During Creation
  1. Does this look real? Surrealism is at its best when it's convincing enough that it could be real, however we obviously know that the subject matter you are creating is nonexistent, thus is not real.
  2. Make it happen to the best of your ability. When you try to approach something challenging, you will learn the skills you may need for next time to make it work.
- Photoshop makes it easier than ever to create surrealist images, requiring just a modicum of photomontage skill to produce impressive results.

DESCRIPTION : When I saw my tumblr in front of me, I had an idea to create on it and find a round shape to match on the bottom. As a result, I found these maggi hot cups in the cupboard in my house. Because they had similar shapes, I tried to combine it and the idea got approved. There's a meaning between these objects. We could add hot water on maggi and close it with the bottle cap. It is easy to bring because it has a handle to grab it whenever you walk.

Based on the 5 sketched i showed up to Mr Fauzi, He choose the #1 (Tumblr and Maggi)and #2 (Mini Fan and Stabilo) because it is easier to bring up.

WEEK 10
From the photo that i took using different lighting, Mr Fauzi said that Photo with normal lighting had a potential to be developed. He told me that using the yellow light mades the object color too heavy instead of normal light.
